Sign Language for Kids
In
addition to reading and writing, Power Packs also
teach American Sign Language “Fingerspelling” – the
method that uses a sign for each letter in a word.
Especially for kids - Although an
adult can learn sign language using this Power Pack,
our materials are specifically designed for the
unique needs of kids. Each hand illustration is that
of a child’s signing hand, not an adult’s.
Children’s hands typically have different
proportions and dexterity than adult hands - this makes some signs
impossible to replicate using traditional materials,
discouraging the learner. Because our learning tools
are created specifically for the needs of children,
learning sign language is naturally easier for kids
using this pack.
Why practice sign language? - There
are many reasons people learn sign language; usually
it is to communicate with the hearing-impaired
or because of the beauty of the language. One
other reason for kids to practice sign language is
that it may develop pathways in the brain that make
learning any foreign language in the future easier. Many 'Power Pack' users enjoy the sign language component of the kit because it provides another way to physically interact with letters and spelling.
